Inspired by a show in Miami, in which a renowned artist made lovely pictures with sugar in bkacj
to depict the plights of children working in the sugar cane fields, we set out to recreate a traditional artwork using a medium
other than paint, chalk, pen/ink, or other materials customarily used in creating art. Studio Xers used coffee grounds,
poppy seeds, pastry, and other media as you can see from the selections below.

| Vegetables |

Drawing from a painting by Henri Matisse, I made
this rendering out of thinly sliced vegetables. Eggplant was the purple, bell peppers the red and yellow, turnip
for the white, and so on. The creation has a very short shelf life, so before the veggies shriveled up,
I took a photo and used it for my presentation to Studio X. Click below to see Henri's original

| La Belle Fernande |

This picture is made of coffee grounds glued to parchment paper. Inspired
by Picasso's 1906 painting La Belle Fernande, I've created her in a dreamlike state, hoping that the coffee perhaps
will awake her.
