Small Book

Small books as art form have a long history.   Our task was to make a small book meeting three criteria:

Six inches square
Incorporating the alphabet
Leather cover

It's A Small Small World

Since 9/11 and worldwide distain for our preemptive war in Iraq, the world has become smaller.  Smaller in that I'm hesitant to travel abroad and smaller in that danger can easily cross oceans and skies to reach our once safe continent.  The alphabet is incorporated by a series of PhotoShop "entry stamps" that explain why the world has gotten smaller.  For examplem A is for "arrogance" and Z is for "zealotry.  Click the link below to see a few more alphabet "entry stamps".

Each page is a tiny painting that depicts a favored memory of my family's days of sailing.  Nautical signal flag alphabets are incorporated into each picture.

I created my small book out of food.  The "ABC" concept was approched in both my method and materials.  To the left -- Boiled Blueberries Blown Onto Burned Brown Paper and Coiled Cornhusks With Cinnamon.

Despite what we teach our children, its really fun playing with food!

Words We Love And Hate

Following the alphabet theme of the small book project, I wrote a poem called Words We Love And Hate.  Click the link to the left to read the poem.  By:  Lorraine Vail

Oh! Shit!

My "small book" was a roll of toilet paper and alphabet of expletives commemorate an epic bout of Montezuma's revenge.
